Radical Agenda S04E063 – United States of Anarchy

Back when I was staunch constitutionist in arguments with anarcho-capitalists, I frequently made the case that we were already in anarchy despite an all powerful institution wreaking havoc in the name of a government. The idea being that lawlessness had gripped the institutions themselves, as the constitution no longer seemed to restrain the actions of government at any level. The task then, for those of us interested in freedom, was to restore order to the institutions, rather than to abolish them.

I was later convinced that this state of affairs was normal. Over the course of many debating sessions, I became convinced that no government had ever been restrained by a constitution, and the historical record showed quite clearly that no time in our history ever existed where these restraints were so honored. The facade of law and order was thusly an illusion designed to facilitate a criminal enterprise in its name. From here I became an anarcho-capitalist myself, thinking that privatizing the institutions would better provide for our future security.

Watching the libertarian movement devolve into Leftist egalitarian nonsense, and our weakened institutions prove incapable of stopping riots and invasions, I began to better appreciate the virtue of authority and hierarchy. I cheered for Trump, and ceased to see any reason to defend myself when people called me a Nazi. I wanted order to be restored, and freedom ceased to be the object of my political activities. Sadly, order has yet to be restored.

This was on display in Charlottesville more starkly than anywhere else. Self described anarchists attended city council meetings, flaunted the rules of order, and demanded the city government break laws and violate court orders. They wanted a body with all the powers of a government, to carry out the whims of the mob, absent any guiding principle, higher authority, or limits on its power, and they got exactly this. In Charlottesville, laws are not universally applied rules to establish order, but rather excuses for those powers to be wielded selectively for political purposes.

Let us then set our sights back on the federal government. With a stalemate in Congress over funding for a border wall, the government is in a “partial shutdown” state which is likely to last into the new year. Despite this state of affairs, one who dares defy the edicts of this institution will find they are no less impacted by the powers it wields. Rather, a handful of non-essential, unelected bureaucrats will get a paid vacation which ends up costing us more than if we had just kept them on the job.

The border itself seems to be in a similar state of anarchy. Even if Trump gets his requested $5 Billion in funding for the wall, it will only build 215 miles of wall on the 1,954 mile border. Expectations are that some compromise will eventually be reached where less than $5 Billion is allocated, allowing both sides to claim victory, and those of us who had hoped to stop the invasion of our country being left in the dust.

President Trump tried to limit asylum claims to those who entered the United States through a legitimate port of entry, barring illegal immigrants from claiming asylum only when caught being here illegally. This was struck down by the Supreme Court, with John Roberts siding with the Left.

With courts prohibiting ICE from detaining families for extended periods of time, and immigration courts backlogged from the influx, ICE has released some 600 migrants into the city of El Paso, Texas, with 500 more expected to be released there today.

This all takes place as the Department of Homeland Security calls on the Centers for Disease Control to investigate growing numbers of arriving migrants suffering from “fevers or manifest other medical conditions,” prompting dozens of daily hospital trips, and creating a public health crisis here in the United States.

Mind you, all of this concern for the supposed rights of disease carrying foreign invaders, comes amidst the backdrop of the Trump administration banning “bump stocks” without an act of Congress or the repeal of our 2nd Amendment. Seemingly without any meaningful controversy. The courts thusly seem uninterested in protecting the rights of Americans enshrined in our constitution, while conjuring reasons to prevent the enforcement of immigration law.

Despite Trump announcing the “full” and “rapid” withdrawal of US forces from Syria, US airstrikes against the supposedly defeated ISIS militant group have continued. Per Axios “It’s a sign that the coalition’s military strategy hasn’t changed since President Trump announced last week that the U.S. would withdraw from Syria.” If the President of the United States is not directing US military strategy, who is?

For the last 16 months, we have watched Antifa run riot from coast to coast on an almost weekly basis. Despite a great deal of interstate travel and use of other facilities of interstate commerce on the part of the participants in these riots, the federal government has shown zero interest in stopping them. Local authorities have likewise shown little interest in restoring order, with the notable exception of two of Philly Antifa goons being charged in Philadelphia, only after they attacked two United States Marine reservists who happened to be of Mexican descent. Instead, they have relentlessly pursued the victims of these assaults. Meanwhile, the Leftist criminals openly brag about their crimes on social media, flaunting not only the law, but also the the terms of service of the platforms, all without any concern for repercussion.

To make matters worse, Democrats are set to take control of the US House of Representatives, and have pledged abuse all powers granted to them in order to further hinder the Trump administration for the remainder of his tenure.

The anarchists, it would seem, have prevailed. Though the State is no more abolished than the guns it wields, no recognizable lawful order exists in the United States. The President is incapable of controlling our borders, or our military. The courts seem intent on prohibiting any exercise of constitutional authority, while wholeheartedly endorsing all exercise of unlawful powers. No right to speak or defend oneself is recognized, no limits on surveillance are imposed. The only “rights” being protected these days are infanticide, invasion, riot, and perjury. Though elections are held as scheduled, and different people and parties occupy the offices to which they are supposedly elected, it would seem policy is fundamentally unchanged and perhaps unchangeable.

With this being the case, it is hardly curious that a rising thirst for authority appears amongst the populace. It calls to mind a quote commonly attributed (with some controversy) to Alexander Tytler;

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

Another, though I am uncertain of the source, goes;

Hard times create strong men,
Strong men create good times,
Good times create weak men,
Weak men create hard times.

Pick your poison, we’re in the late stages of either cycle, with no relief in sight. Libertarians, gold bugs, preppers, and myriad “patriot” types have long predicted the collapse of the dollar and a broader breakdown of civil order. We should all wish to be so lucky, for at least under such circumstances the State would be so weakened as to permit a capable authoritarian to right the ship. In our case, no such opportunity presents itself, as we find our country in a curious condition of State imposed anarchy.
